Bill Rodgers visited 15 years ago and his work still inspires present practices. This recent visit was equally rewarding and impacted on over 200 staff at the Blackpool Opera House on Friday 13th February.

His focus was on, naturally behaviour, and his opening session started with a need to create “calmness”, through positive congruent language and “respectful” challenges to student behaviour. Through a personal case study journey, Bill took us all captively on a need to focus on primary behaviour and ignore tactically secondary behaviours which could escalate. He explained that staff approaches, even on a continuum of “non-vigilant” to “over vigilant” could be modified to acquire a more effective approach through confidence, respectfulness and reasonably engaging strategies. In an attempt to change behaviours “over time” he talked of the need to re-enforce positive habitual behaviours. Equally important is the need to challenge negative behaviours and ensure they are followed up with consequences. He explained that teachers having “earned” the power that they might have gained “with or for” children to occasionally use it to “direct” the consequences of behaviour. Positively or negatively

Using examples he has tried himself, Bill shared the rights of children to be safe, respect others and learn that building in routines, particularly early in meeting groups of children are crucial. Non-negotiables include those rights as a core and that behaviour consequences should be organised based on three principles. Is it Related, Reasonable and Respectful. To keep respect, on both sides, and in tact behaviour management intervention should be brief, have appropriate severity with known “fear” and “certainty” of action, a need to focus on the behaviours NOT the person and a right to reply at an appropriate time. The session that Bill provided describing the steps towards positive behaviour was extremely well received by the audience. It was a pleasure to hear from such a distinguished speaker.
http://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/images/news/Bill_Rogers.jpgThu, 05 Mar 2015 16:29:43 GMTNews Articleshttp://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/news/latest/2015-02-05-news-articleshttp://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/news/latest/2015-02-05-news-articles
Web Editors

Please submit any exciting news about things that are going on in school and are linked with the wider picture across Blackpool to: diane.brennan@blackpool.gov.uk

The deadlines is TBC.
http://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/images/news/News.jpgThu, 05 Feb 2015 16:15:39 GMTBlackpool Schools Partnership Inspiring Filmhttp://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/news/latest/2015-01-23-blackpool-schools-partnership-inspiring-filmhttp://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/news/latest/2015-01-23-blackpool-schools-partnership-inspiring-film

After months of filming and editing here is the inspiring film produced by the partnership and CLC media:

http://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/images/news/Girl_camera_(1).jpgFri, 23 Jan 2015 10:23:54 GMTBlackpool Schools Partnership website is launchedhttp://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/news/latest/2014-11-14-blackpool-schools-partnership-website-is-launchedhttp://www.blackpoolschoolspartnership.co.uk/news/latest/2014-11-14-blackpool-schools-partnership-website-is-launched
We are pleased to be able to launch our brand new Blackpool Schools Partnership website.
